The Stars Aren’t Aligning for Dallas

As I sit here watching the Dallas Stars face off against the Calgary Flames, I’m wondering  what the rest of the season is going to look like for Dallas if more injuries plague the roster or if Turco never finds his rhythm.

As of right now, Philip Boucher, Steve Ott, Jere Lehtinen, Brenden Morrow, Sergei Zubov are all injured, and Sean Avery’s mouth got him scratched out of tonight’s game, at least.

Lots of young talent is getting ice time right now.  Peterson, Barch, Brunnstrom, Connor, Erikson and Neal immediately stand out. But do they have enough moxy to start the trek back up to make the playoffs if, God forbid, something happens to Modano, Ribiero or Sydor.  I’m hoping we don’t have to find out if that will be the case.

Marty Turco is not having a stellar year so far.  His GAA is 3.61 right now and his win/loss is 7-10, maybe 8-10 if we win tonight.  He simply has to improve if the Stars are going to make the playoffs.  The addition of Daryl Sydor back to the roster is a great move by management and he needs to show these younger defensemen the same thing that Craig Ludwig showed him.  How to sacrifice the body to stop the puck getting on goal and how to up end a racing forward with a vicious hip check along the boards.

Thankfully, the youthful and energetic are scoring goals, and the season is long enough at this point Dallas can get a good many of their injured players back.  So maybe celestial phenomena are not the best way to label the Stars season thus far, but I don’t want their season to be short lived like the former logo above either.
